Data Universal Numbering System
What is a DUNS Number?
The DUNS Number is a unique nine-digit identification number provided by D&B. DUNS Number assignment is FREE for all businesses required to register with the U.S. Government for contracts or grants.
What is a DUNS +4?
A DUNS plus four is an alphanumeric four character set that follows a nine-digit DUNS number. This alphanumeric code is not associated, assigned or handled by D&B.
When adding additional bank accounts in SAM, the DUNS +4 extension allows the DLA to assign a new CAGE Code for each additional bank account entered on the Financial Information page of the SAM entity registration.
A DUNS +4 extension to a DUNS number is created by registrants in SAM when there is a need for more than one bank/Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) account for a single location. D&B does not create or maintain the +4 number
Perhaps you should add language to the effect that when an entity does not have multiple bank accounts, the additional 4 numbers are 0000.
There are a whole lot of SVOG applicants unnecessarily seeking the last 4 numbers of their DUNS #.
