ASSET-BACKED SECURITIES

Securitized interests in a pool of assets, which give the purchaser a claim against the cash flows generated by the underlying assets. These pools may be derived from mortgage loans, auto loans, credit card receivables, vehicle and equipment leases, consumer loans, commercial loans or other assets. ABS give the holder an undivided interest in the securitized assets and payments made from the cash flows received by the issuer from the payments of principal and interest from the borrowers. (ABS include mortgage-backed securities (MBS), collateralized mortgage obligations (CMOs), collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), collateralized debt obligations (CDOs), and stripped asset-backed securities. ABS do not include securities, such as covered bonds or pfandbriefes, where the security is collateralized, but the holder of the security does not have a claim of the cash flows generated by the collateral.)
