Renewal claim

An assertion of ownership for the second term of copyright in a work of authorship originally published or registered under the 1909 Act; when filed with the U.S. Copyright Office, a renewal claim presents a request for registration. For works copyrighted between January 1, 1964 and December 31, 1977, renewal is automatic but registration confers certain benefits.
