FINANCIAL INTERMEDIARY

An organization or part thereof (e.g., subsidiary or other operating unit) whose major activity is to raise or otherwise obtain funds to provide to another entity. (An insurance company is not a financial intermediary. "Other financial intermediary" is a financial intermediary other than a depository institution, a securities broker/dealer or a bank holding company and/or financial holding company.
